Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, born on August 28, 1749 in Frankfurt am Main and died on March 22, 1832 in Weimar. A poet of the Weimar Classicism he stayed in Sicily from March 29 to May 14, 1787 during an almost two-year trip to Italy. Just two weeks after his arrival in Sicily, he wrote down the following famous sentence on Friday, April 13, 1787:

„Italien ohne Sizilien macht gar kein Bild in der Seele: hier ist erst der Schlüssel zu allem.”
“Italy without Sicily leaves little impression on the soul: it is here that the key to unlock it all resides.”
